"When am i ever going to use this?"
It's a question asked by many disinterested students, mostly in the math room. My goal is to create a series of worksheets which highlight the appearances of mathematics in both everyday and professional life. Math is everywhere, and by bringing its applications into the classroom, I hope to alter the perspective many students have towards the discipline. The lessons in this program will require critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities in order to understand mathematics in a real-world context. About meMy name is Michael, and I am a senior at Severn School. I didn't used to be a math person. I think a lot of people can probably relate to the experience I had learning math in lower school: an endless pile of monotonous worksheets with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (all variations of the same exact problem, using the same exact method). It was only recently, as I started to take higher level math courses, that I began to understand the real-world applications of theoretical concepts in math and the unique challenge of applying them to solve individualized problems. I want to thanks Ms. Lepi and Mrs. Carsley for their help and support on this project! |
